Empowering Underprivileged Women this Women’s Day: QB x Rouble Nagi Art Foundation

Queen’s Brigade began as a community measure to empower and uplift women across the board – no matter their age, class or vocation. We earnestly believe that every day is a day to celebrate women, to encourage and support them in the pursuit of their dreams. However, the 8th of March is a welcome event in the annual calendar, as it forces the rest of the world to initiate conversations around the importance of respecting and empowering women. At Queen’s Brigade, we choose to celebrate it by adding value to the life of women.

Our mission is to make women self-reliant emotionally and financially so they never feel dependent on others. Apart from inculcating and teaching essential life skills, we also work towards instilling self-confidence in them. Though we endeavour to do this for all women in our circles, we are particularly keen to uplift those that live in marginalised sections of society.

Life has always been difficult for women who live in slums, and with the pandemic, their problems and struggles have increased multi-fold. Just a basic interaction with them often reveals their creative natures, intelligent outlook to life and keen aptitude for learning. The only thing stopping their success are their circumstances. To provide a helping hand to these deserving women, Queen’s Brigade has teamed up with the Rouble Nagi Art Foundation. Over the past few months, we have planned various initiatives for their welfare, and on this Women’s Day, the celebration promises to be extra special. On the 8th of this month, our team of qualified women will teach the underprivileged women from the Swami Vivekananda Marg Basti in Chanakyapuri, the technique for block printing on cloth.

Block printing as an art can be used to decorate envelopes for gifting, and make beautiful patterns on fabrics that can be used for suits, dresses, bedsheets and cushion covers. This program will be led by Ritu Gupta, a member of Queens Brigade, and a life coach and NLP practitioner with a Master’s degree in Textile Design. Other members will be present for support and to lend a helping hand with the workshop which will cater to 70-100 women.

We would love it if you joined hands with our team and the Rouble Nagi Art foundation by writing to us at connect@queensbrigade.com and reserving a spot for yourself. I will personally cover this event and share more details of my experience afterwards. Along with the team at Queen’s Brigade, I look forward to your participation and contribution in empowering these oft-neglected yet incredibly valuable members of our society.
